'Get Creative' is the new name for the very, very successful Course we have been running in the Mapledurham Studio for the last two years.

It covers everything to get you painting professionally, creatively and in your own style! Even if you have been painting for a while, most students say they have learnt more in one hour on this course than years of art classes. (One student said she'd learnt more on this course than 2 years at a renowned Art College).

Fantastic tutor, great work space, terrific atmosphere. What more could anyone ask for? Ed - August 2007

We like to think that at the end of the weekend you will have all the skills to paint absolutely anything. You learn, composition, focal points, tonal values, colour balance and painting techniques. ALL MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. PLUS TAKE AWAY TUITION MANUALS and of course you take away all your masterpieces!

Everyone has their own space, a professional easel, painting table, painting brushes, paints etc. You chose your size canvas - up to 100x100cm

The Course Programmes are created EXCLUSIVELY by JoeDaisy Studio - designed to give the student the very best course content and teaching. We now note other providers are trying to copy our course content (which is a bit of a cheek!) but they don't have our TEN secret weapons: click

COURSE PROGRAMME - GET CREATIVE WEEKEND

SATURDAY

Arrive 10.0am
Refreshments in the upstairs gallery. Meet your fellow artists. Introduction to JoeDaisy Studio and your Professional Artist.

10.30am Paints, brushes and equipment. KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. We paint in acrylics.
A complete overview, explanation and comparison of products. Every artist has their own space with professional easel, painting table and hi stool. Some special tips on how to prepare your canvas for painting. Use of pigments & mediums. Which sort of brush for each medium etc. There is a complete selection of brushes, palette knives, paints, pastels, canvases, pigments, mediums, etc in the studio.

11.0am Painting with passion and the power of one brush and a limited palette. Acrylics. An essential warming up and ‘exploring’ exercise where you discover your own abilities/ instincts/leanings. You are taught how to create a focal point and how to balance your colour (with reference to the Colour Wheel) in this initial exercise. You also learn how nature can teach you composition and how 'nature' can be your starting point to create 'simplified' or 'abstract' paintings

We explore brushes and Caroline shows you how to handle and work your brush. Everyone has the same colour palette and it is very interesting to see how each student creates a completely different painting.

We use the wet on wet method and paint with passion, spontaneously, quickly and with confidence of colour. This is an initial exercise to explore your instinctive creative abilities.

It’s good to look back on this first painting at the end of the weekend - to see how you’ve progressed.

12.0am Buffet Lunch in the Upstairs Gallery (Sometimes a barbecue in the summer)
We cater for vegetarians and any special dietary requirements. During the day, there is a coffee machine, tea, herbal drinks, soft drinks, bottled water and wine available - along with nibbles and you are encouraged to make the Studio 'your home' for the weekend i.e take rests whenever you want to, walk around, look at the art books, look at the paintings and prints in the Gallery, sit and chat etc. We want you to feel as if you are at home but with the added bonus of every top quality Professional art material and facility you could desire!

1.00pm Composition.
Now we get serious and teach you the essential Rules for composing a Harmonious painting. Examples of successful and non successful paintings are given so you can analyse how the paintings work or don't work - based on their composition and colour balance. Contributions from you are encouraged at all times.

2.0pm. Tonal Values.
A drawing exercise on paper, using the view finder to compose your painting. You use all the rules you have just learnt about composition. A lesson to teach you to look for essential tonal (light and dark) values in your art works. (This is carried out in the Studio in winter - or outside in the spring/summer - weather allowing)

3.0pm Painting your composed drawing.
Putting your working drawing onto canvas. Using our special composition tips.

4.30-5.0pm Discussion about your desired subjects for painting the next day.
Because we want to encourage the artist in you and not just 'take you through the motions' we want you to chose the subjects you want to paint. Painting is all about passion, what you want to say and how you want to say it.

So now you decide what you want to paint. You may even have a painter whose style you want to emulate. There is nothing wrong with that because you will eventually discover your own style.

Bring a photograph with you of the scene/image you want to paint. If you don't have any ide of what you want to paint, We can set up a still life in the Studio for you.

More advanced students will create their own composition with the skills learnt.

5.0pm Day ends.
